Today and tomorrow we can expect sunny days with minimized rain chances due to the current ridge pattern over us. Starting on Sunday and then moving into next week, some positively tilted troughing will form and park itself to our left for a bit. This means increased afternoon showers and thunderstorms for our region, but most likely nothing too severe.
Today’s Atmospheric Setup:

Today we are under some ridging, so some more fair weather will be in order. This ridging will continue through tomorrow, so Saturday will also be a nice day. Beginning on Sunday, persistent troughing will begin to build in over the western United States, and then move toward the middle of the US and hang out there for a while next week.

Like a typical stationary front, the one over the Gulf Coast and into the Atlantic is still parked over the area. So, we have some afternoon showers and thunderstorms forecasted for today. The front over Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, etc. will continue to head toward us over the weekend.

Today’s Weather

Although temperatures will reach the low 90s today, the humidity levels will make it feel a good 10-15 degrees hotter than the actual temperature. Around noontime and the early afternoon, “experienced” temperatures will exceed 100-105 degrees across the majority of our forecast area. You can compare the actual temperature and heat index here:

As for rain and thunderstorms, some areas could see a light, scattered shower or two later in the afternoon or early evening, but many areas may stay completely dry depending on where exactly these storms pop up. A thunderstorm is possible as well, but it is unlikely that these storms will be severe.

This Weekend’s Weather:

As I said before, tomorrow we will see, more or less, a continuation of today’s weather: Sunny and low 90s with minimal afternoon rain and storm chances. On Sunday, the overall weather pattern will begin to adjust a bit with a trough way out west beginning to form. On Sunday we will also see a bit of a temperature drop, helping to decrease how hot it feels outside. Just take a look at the experienced temperatures on Saturday vs. Sunday:

Next Week’s Weather and Beyond:

By next week, the previously mentioned trough will make its way closer to us, but still staying to our left. This setup is looking like it will last all week, meaning some increased rain chances for the week. This does not mean a complete washout every day, though. The way this troughing is forecasted to position itself usually does not indicate severe weather. The likely scenario at this point is that instead of expecting 30% of our area to receive rain, we could expect 60% of our area.
