Summer is in full swing and so is baseball! Some scattered rain showers in the northeast that will bring in lots of humidity while down south, heat is the main story of the weekend. Plenty of games to talk about before our teams take a break next week so let’s dive into it!
New York Yankees
The Yankees start a new home series against the Chicago Cubs at 7:05pm EDT. Temperatures will start in the low-80s and cool off to the mid-70s by the end of the game. Humidity will be increasing from 65% to around 85% by the final innings. Surface winds will be calm while winds at 150ft will be around 10 mph pointing towards the left field foul line. It will start as a partly cloudy evening but clouds will move into the area as the game goes on. A fairly warm and sticky night as we see that humidity increase but there shouldn’t be any rain which will be nice for the game.

The Yankees continue their home series against the Cubs at 1:05pm EDT on Saturday afternoon. Temperatures will be around 84 degrees which will be our peak for the day. Humidity will remain around 65% with calm surface winds. At 150ft, winds will be around 7 mph pointing towards the infield. It will be a mostly cloudy afternoon which will be helpful in keeping the sun a bit at bay. It will still be quite important to hydrate and wear sunscreen as it will be very hot and the sun will still be out!

The Yankees finish their home series against the Cubs on Sunday afternoon at 1:35pm EDT. Temperatures will be around 83 degrees with humidity around 55%. It will be a pretty cloudy afternoon which will help keep the temperatures not as hot however, the winds won’t be giving any relief with almost no surface winds and at 150ft, winds will only be around 8 mph. Air motion will be naturally sinking which is not super helpful to hitters. Another hot afternoon for spectators and players alike!

Biloxi Shuckers
The Shuckers continue their home series at 6:35pm CDT tonight against our very own Birmingham Barons. It will be a mostly cloudy evening as scattered showers near the west of the region. No showers should hit the area which means the post-game fireworks are likely to go on. Temperatures will be in the low-80s with humidity in the 65-75% range. As cloud coverage increases throughout the game, so will the humidity. Winds will be calm at the surface and at 150ft they will be around 9 mph pointing towards left field. Air motion will be naturally sinking which won’t be super helpful to fly balls. A pretty hot and humid evening, but after the sun sets, it will feel a bit cooler for the fireworks show.

The Shuckers continue their home series against the Barons on Saturday at 6:05pm CDT. Temperatures will be in the mid-80s with humidity around 70%. Some showers will be to the south, but nothing that will affect the region. It will be a partly cloudy evening with calm surface winds. Winds at 150ft will be pointing towards left field around 12 mph. Air motion will be nearly neutral so the wind will be our biggest ball impact of the evening. It will be pretty hot out there so be sure to hydrate and dress appropriately for the heat!

Sunday afternoon’s 1:05pm CDT game against the Barons will conclude the Shucker’s home series. As we hit the peak of the day, temperatures and sun exposure will be at the highest. It will be a partly cloudy afternoon which means most spectators and players will feel that sun beating down on them for most of the game. With temperatures around 89 degrees and humidity at 63%, that will feel even hotter. Winds won’t cool much down because at the surface they are calm and at 150ft they are only around 10 mph. Air motion is naturally rising which is beneficial to fly balls getting that extra few inches out. Be sure to hydrate well, wear sunscreen, and dress appropriately for this game because it’s going to be a hot one!

Brooklyn Cyclones
The Cyclones continue their home series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks tonight at 6:40pm EDT. It will start off as a clear evening but as we head into the second half of the game, clouds will roll into the region which will not be great for the post-game fireworks show. Temperatures will be in the mid-70s with high humidity at around 90%. Surface winds will be around 5-10 mph while at 150ft they will be around 10-15 mph. Winds will be pointing towards the infield which isn’t super helpful to hitters. With the high humidity, it will feel quite sticky and the air will feel heavy even though the temperatures won’t be super high.

Saturday’s game against the Blue Rocks will take place at 6pm EDT at home. Temperatures will be in the mid-70s with partly cloudy skies. Humidity will be around 85% with surface winds at around 5 mph. Winds at 150ft will be around 9 mph pointing towards home plate. There will be scattered showers to the north of the region, but none should affect the game. The high humidity will again make the air feel heavy even though the air motion will be neutral so be sure to hydrate and be prepared for that hotter feeling.

The Cyclones closed out their series against the Blue Rocks at 2pm EDT Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will be around 78 degrees with clear skies. Humidity will be around 70% with surface winds of around 6 mph. Winds will be pointing towards the infield and will be around 10 mph at 150ft. The air will be naturally rising which will be better for hitters but since they will be going against the wind, those two things may end up canceling each other out. We will be hitting peak temperatures and sun during this game so even with lower temperatures than earlier this week, the sun and humidity will make it feel much hotter.

Hudson Valley Renegades
The Renegades continue their home series this week against the Asheville Tourists at 7:05pm EDT. Temperatures will start in the mid-80s but cool to the upper-70s by the final innings. Humidity will be around 65% with partly cloudy skies. There will be some showers to the north, but none that should affect our game time. Surface winds will be around 3 mph with winds at 150ft around 15 mph pointing towards the left field foul line. Air motion will be fairly neutral for the majority of the game but will be sinking more by the end of the game. The air motion combined with the wind will make it a bit harder for hitters to get their fly balls further into the outfield. Skies will be quite clear for the post-game fireworks show and it will still be fairly warm and a bit sticky for that so just be ready!

The Renegades continue their home series against the Tourists at 5:05pm EDT Saturday. Temperatures will be around 79/80 degrees with humidity around 75%. There is a chance for showers, especially in the first few innings. Some of these showers may end up being thunderstorms so it will be important to check the local weather and updates from the stadium incase there is lightning nearby. I don’t expect these showers to affect our game time as of now however, with these types of storms it’s hard to tell in advance. Winds will be calm throughout the evening and the air will be naturally sinking which will help our players with getting fly balls out further. Overall, a decent night for baseball but it might feel a bit a sticky which would be the only complaint for this evening.

Sunday’s game finishes the home series against the Tourists at 2:05pm EDT. It will be a partly cloudy afternoon with a temperature of 86 degrees and humidity at 47%. Air motion will be naturally rising with winds at 150ft around 10 mph pointing towards the left field foul line. Surface winds will be calm. The rising air will help keep fly balls afloat for longer but that could also mean they float out of bounds further too. A hot afternoon as we hit peak temperatures for the day so be sure to hydrate and wear sunscreen!
