One, no, Several Rainy Wishes – Weekend Forecast for South MS/LA/AL 6/11/25

The rain missed some of us while some towards the coast and in the northern end of the Pine Belt saw some lingering afternoon thunderstorms earlier today. The rain and thunderstorm trend looks to continue as there’s a clearer picture as to why.

Surface forecast map for Thursday from the Weather Prediction Center

A surface low pressure system is rotating out of Texas and moving its way northeastward towards the Great Lakes region. A high pressure system just north of it will move it further upwards while we’ll get a taste of the rain and thunderstorms it dishes out.

The HRRR model shows some cells developing out of the Gulf in the early afternoon on Thursday associated with the moisture flow. While we won’t really see the brunt of it like Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana will, we should expect some showers and thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and evening. Friday will be a similar story as more move in from the coastline. Highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s and lows in the low 70s.

Saturday also looks to be a rainy one as a line of storms looks to move in from the southwest towards the Louisiana coastline and into Mississippi. If you have any plans outside on Saturday, be sure to have a backup plan indoors. By Sunday, the low will have moved further east towards the northern Appalachians. More flow from the Gulf will be the main influence for our rain chances meaning that we’ll likely see some gust fronts affecting where the storms will move, but still likely northward from the coast. An MCS from the central Plains also looks to move southward which may collide with the coastal flow, but this seems to be further north than us. Highs will be in the low 90s but heat indices will be rising to the upper 90s. Lows in the low to mid 70s.
