Still warm, with a few storms: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 8/18/25

High pressure remains in control today, keeping things hot and humid across the region. A small pocket of atmospheric energy will slide through, bringing just a slight boost to rain chances, but for most of us it’s another steamy day.

The high will stick around through the week, though it will gradually shift westward. As it does, a shortwave trough swinging around its eastern edge will dive into parts of Texas and Louisiana. That feature will help bump up our rain chances Thursday and Friday, which should also take the edge off the heat a bit.

Until then, expect plenty of warmth. The NWS has a Heat Advisory in effect for parts of the area today, and tomorrow may bring more of the same before temperatures ease slightly later in the week.

The “Experienced Temperature” data shown ont eh charts from our intern, Derek, below highlights just how warm it is going to feel outside and in the sunshine. Really hot stuff.

The NQLBOT, our AI Wether Helper, data shows the regular ol’ temperatures pushing the upper 90s during the next two days. I will say that I wonder just how warm, technically, we actually get given the shot for afternoon storms. But, fctoring in the humidity, the lack of a breeze, and the sunshine and it will feel plenty warm.

But, while it isn’t shown by our NQLBOT friend here, I think these afternoon storms may limit just how hot the official thermometer shows in a number of places.

And not to bury the lede but let’s talk Tropics.

The NHC is monitoring a wave out in the Atlantic, currently given a “medium” chance of development. At this point, I still think the odds of it becoming a real concern for the central Gulf Coast are on the low end, but the chance is not zero—and it’s higher than what we ever saw from Erin.
