Yep, they weren’t kidding when they said it’s going to be a warm February this time of year. Also, like I said, we need a possum version of Groundhog Day, because it would’ve hissed at us and said it was an early spring.
Anyways, after the cold front waltzed in yesterday, we’ll have a brief cool day for this Presidents’ Day and warm up soon after. Rain is expected to move in by Thursday and Friday, though not all that strong until the weekend. Let’s take a look!

Today

We’re starting off in the low to mid 50s across the area today with cloudy skies. The clouds will hang around for a while and temperatures won’t spike much in the afternoon. We’ll be in the low to mid 60s across the board today with northerly winds. Overnight, we’ll fall into the upper 40s.

Tomorrow

With an incoming low pressure system farther to the north, a pressure gradient will form around the east central US contributing to some higher southerly winds on Tuesday. Partly sunny skies are expected during the day with a high in the upper 60s to low 70s. This trend will continue on for the next couple of days.

By Thursday, a warm front will move north of us bringing enough moisture to drive in some rain from the Gulf. It’s still a bit iffy as to how much rain as model guidance makes it look like a blob across the Gulf south. I’m currently on the side of showers with a possible thunderstorm. Friday will be similar, however the GFS and Euro models disagree on their direction. The European model rushes the cold front in by Friday evening with no rain on Saturday while the GFS has another blob of rain before the main front on Saturday.

Looking at the temperature forecast between Wednesday and Friday, we’re going to warm up significantly into the upper 70s to just around 80 by Thursday and Friday. The lows are going to be in the upper 50s to low 60s. Yikes! It’s gonna feel like soup in the morning, so just be aware.

Looking at the extended forecast, if the cold front moves in by Saturday, we’ll have a chance of rain and thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center has not placed any outlooks on this so far, so we’ll have to wait and see. Model agreement will also come into play once we get closer to Saturday.
