Warm Week with Isolated Rain Chances – Week Ahead Forecast for South MS/LA/AL 2/9/26

With a large cold front forming near the Great Lakes and an Atlantic high pressure system to the east, we’re currently in a warm pattern for early-mid February. The average high will be in the 70s for the week and won’t change until another cold front moves in by Saturday. You’ll be able to wear some short sleeves during the day and maybe keep the heater off at night this week.

Starting off this week, we’re already in the mid 50s in most areas around the Pine Belt and coast. Some areas are seeing patchy fog with the calmer conditions. Temperatures will reach the low 70s today and a low around 50 tonight with mostly clear skies. Tuesday will be a similar story with increasing clouds ahead of the incoming front.

By Wednesday, the front will move in with some isolated rain chances. This front begins to weaken a bit, so we won’t expect much from it other than a few showers moving to the south overnight. The next front behind it will slow in the Rockies before it eventually moves in by Saturday, however some scattered showers are possible both Thursday and Friday night. More humid conditions are expected for the latter part of the week, but otherwise we’ll continue the trend of highs in the mid-upper 70s and lows in the low-mid 50s.

Looking into the weekend, a more organized line of thunderstorms will move in Saturday into Sunday. So far, the Storm Prediction Center hasn’t placed any preliminary outlooks on this. The convection on this system looks modest, however I noticed that the line may be leading ahead of the convection which may limit severe development in the long run. I’ll have a closer look at it coming up on my next forecast, so stay tuned.
