Record Amarillo heat possible

Right now, Friday’s forecast high for Amarillo is 84 degrees. That would break the 99-year-old record by two degrees. That made me stop and think: How is it that just 82 degrees is our record high on Friday?!? I thought I’d take a look at how crazy it is that just 82 degrees is a record.

Here are the records for mid-March

Date – Record temp (date)

10 – 90 (1989)
11 – 92 (1989)
12 – 86 (1916)
13 – 88 (2002)
14 – 85 (1972)
15 – 82 (1914)
16 – 86 (1908)
17 – 86 (1989)
18 – 91 (1907)
19 – 96 (1907)
20 – 96 (1907)

It looks like we had two hot streaks in our mid-March history. In 1989 and back in 1907. A little crazy – and kind of neat – that the 15th is the lowest record maximum during this time period AND that it is the warmest day that we are looking at during this period.

And to take the craziness one step father… The lowest record maximum during this time is ALSO the record that has been around for nearly 100 years!
