South Mississippi Forecast 7/28/21

Things are looking a bit drier over the next few days. Good, right? And a lot warmer. Okay, so that is not so good.

Today will be hot and humid. In fact, dangerously so. Heat Index readings, given all of the humidity in the air, will be around 105 to 110. So please, please, please, drink plenty of water.

Temperatures may climb into the upper 90s for highs by the time we get toward the weekend. And then you factor in the humidity, so we may be talking about Heat Index values near 110 for the next few days.

Then, by Sunday afternoon/evening, it looks like a little midsummer front will try to sneak down here. How much relief we will get from this is still a bit ‘up in the air’ but it does look like it will bump up the chance for storms. And storms that may be rather electric.

The above image is a Skew-T of the data from teh GFS for Sunday. It shows a fair amount of instability and a fair amount of low-level forcing to get storms up and moving (aside from just the daytime heat). Downdraft CAPE would suggest a chance for some gusty wind, sure. But the Lifted Index values around -5 to -7 and a K-Index and Total Totals over 40 means lightning may be the main concern.

But for now, the heat is the main story.

Daily Timeline

With all of that heat and humidity, you are likely going to see showers and storms erupt, too. Though, probably not as many as we’d like to see. On top of that, if you get one early enough in the day, it will only make things feel hotter because when the sun comes back out to evaporate the rain, all of that moisture will just be sitting in the air.

But it does look like the better chances for rain will be in the afternoon and evening during the next 48 hours. It looks like everyone should have a dry morning and lunch.
