Storms still possible Wednesday, then colder with lingering precip Thursday/Friday

We continue to monitor the chance for storms on Wednesday followed by a chance – and a pretty low chance, at this point – for some wintry precip on Thursday and Friday.

First things first, though, we do have the chance for some storms on Wednesday. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted the area with a Marginal Risk for severe weather. That is a 1-out-of-5 on the 1-to-5 scale where “5” is the highest risk for the most significant severe weather.

The potential for any kind of significant severe weather is pretty low at this point. Even the CIPS analogs aren’t very impressed by this setup, showing a less than 30-percent chance the region sees a single severe storm.

Once the storms move through, we will see a push of colder air into the region during the overnight hours Wednesday and through Thursday and into Friday.

That is when the forecast gets a bit more difficult to nail down.

At the same time, I would argue that some over-running precip may be possible, leading to the potential for some sleet pellets to mix with some of the light rain and drizzle.

So far, it looks like the potential for impacts would be on the lower end of the scale because the meaningful precip would be too far south and out into the Gulf.

But that isn’t written in stone. Heck, it isn’t even written in pencil.

So please continue to check back for forecast updates. Just know that Thursday night and into Friday morning may pose some sort of travel issues.
