The hot and muggy pattern persists in the Southeast but mild relief expected early next week

For the rest of the work week and entering the weekend, heat and humidity will stick around from Texas to the Carolinas as heat indices peak above 100F. However, while the southeastern ridge has been dominant, it will weaken come Sunday night as a cold front begins to push through the region, lowering both air and dew point temperatures.

As the southeastern ridge weakens, the region will see a brief pattern change that delivers cooler and wetter conditions. Rainfall totals will generally hover around .25″ for the Southeast, but local areas could see upwards of 1″ by the end of Tuesday. This pattern won’t hold, however, as the southeastern ridge takes control again later next week. This will lead to more heat and humidity, but on the bright side, the pattern should not be as intense as it was this week

The moral of the story: hit the beach this weekend if you can, but if you can’t, relief is on the way starting next week!
