Storms return Friday and through the weekend: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 5/2/23

Things will start pretty dry today and tomorrow. I don’t think we have to worry about wildfires still, but if you plan on doing any outdoor burning, please keep a close eye on everything. Wind from the northwest will be dry and a bit gusty. Hate to see something get out of control.

The chance for a few storms will sneak back into the area start on friday afternoon. Model guidance doesn’t quite have things figured out through the weekend and into next week, but I would say be prepared for showers and storms to be off-and-on throughout the weekend. It looks like we may see a few clusters of storms try to fire up to our northwest and dive through the area, so the timing and specifics are still TBD, but this is a situation where past experience with ‘Mississippi storms in May’ could perform better at forecasting than any model guidance.

The clusters of storms will persist into next week, too. We will be stuck with passing storm systems to our north and along the boundary between cooler, drier air to the northwest and warmer, humid air to the southeast – and that will mean potential storms every day.

For those that are not looking forward to the precip, I have good news: Generally these situations don’t mean rain all day every day. Instead it is just a few hours of rain (sometimes even overnight) with a good mixture of sunshine, too.
