Calm weather this week, brief shot for rain Friday night, storms return next week: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 2/13/24

After a reaosnably active weather pattern the last few days, things have really calmed down – and should stay calm through next week.

Our next system arrives late Friday night and should slide through with little consequence. Some rain, thunder and gusty wind look to be the roughest of the weather. And all of this should happen with little to no severe weather threat.

Even the rainfall totals look meager. This will help give us a chance to dry out a bit. And as the plants start to wake back up for Spring, it will get them a chance to soak up some sunshine, too.

As we look past next Thursday, though, it does look like the system for next weekend may pack a bit more of a punch.

Looking at the Top 100 analogs, nearly 40-50 of the most similar situations include the potential for severe weather across much of the region. The data suggest the tornado threat may be a bit more limited with this next go-around, though. So it may be more of a wind/hail event than a tornado event.

And recall that March is – sort of – out hail season. So, seeing a risk for hail in the forecast in late February isn’t all too surprising.
