We have lots of games to talk about today. The Yankees are back at home for a new series, and we have two of our southern teams at home this week. A warm and humid week down south and up in New York, we will get some of the southern heat later in the week. Let’s jump into the details of the games.
New York Yankees
Tonight, the Yankees start a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians. The series kicks off tonight at home at 7:05pm EDT. Temperatures will be warm during batting practice at around 80 degrees, but start to cool down after sunset. Temperatures will start around 76 degrees for the first few innings and get down to around 67 degrees by the end of the game. Humidity will start low, around 40%, and increase throughout the game up to 60%, so overall not too sticky. It will be a very clear night with minimal winds at the surface and winds at 150ft only around 9 mph. The light winds will be going in towards the left field foul line, but won’t affect gameplay much. Overall a very nice night for some baseball and for the players they will not be able to use weather as an excuse for their playing performance!

Wednesday continues the home series against the Guardians at 7:05pm EDT. Temperatures will be in the upper-60s to low-70s. Humidity will start around 60% and increase to around 70% by the end of the game. It will be a very clear night with minimal surface winds. At 150ft winds will be going in towards the left field foul line and will be around 8 mph. Like tonight, the weather won’t be playing a huge role in ball motion, and it will be a very nice night for players and spectators alike!

To close out their series against the Guardians, the Yankees play at home Thursday at 7:05pm EDT. Temperatures will be quite warm in the mid-80s for the majority of the game. Humidity will be around 50% with minimal surface winds. The winds at 150ft will be coming infield towards home plate at around 10 mph. It will be mostly cloudy out with the chance of an early thunderstorm before or during batting practice. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are not out of the question for Thursday and could potentially set back the game time. I believe this is rather unlikely, but I can’t rule that possibility out, so just keep that in mind if you plan on attending Thursday’s game.

Biloxi Shuckers
The Biloxi Shuckers start a home series this week against the Montgomery Biscuits with a game tonight at 6:35pm CDT. Temperatures will be around 80 degrees with humidity at around 76%, so it will be starting to feel more like a summer baseball game. It will be sunny out until sunset, which will be around 7:54pm tonight, and it will remain clear. Winds at the surface will be around 4 mph at the surface but at 150ft they will be fairly strong at 21 mph. These winds will be pointed towards the infield more, which will make it much harder for hitters to reach far into the outfield with their hits. Normally, the higher humidity helps with fly balls being lighter and moving more into the outfield, but the strong winds at 150ft will be stopping that tonight. Be prepared for these winds as well if you are sitting in the upper levels!

Wednesday’s home game against the Biscuits starts at 6:35pm CDT. Temperatures will be in the low-80s, and humidity will be in the 70% range and increasing throughout the game. This will make it feel quite hot and sticky, especially while the sun is still out. It will be mostly sunny/clear out for the game with minimal surface winds. There may be some scattered showers before the game, which may leave the field damp however, there shouldn’t be any rain during the game. Winds at 150ft will be around 17mph directed towards home plate. This will make it harder for batters to get those extra feet on their fly balls. A fairly sticky and warm game for both players and spectators.

The series against the Biscuits continues at 6:35pm CDT on Thursday. Temperatures will be in the low-80s with humidity around 75%. It will feel quite warm and sticky with mostly sunny/clear skies for the evening. Winds at the surface will be minimal, and above at 150ft they will be around 9 mph. These winds will be pointed toward home plate and again will be against the hitters. It is definitely starting to feel more like southern summertime baseball in Biloxi, and expect a similar pattern to continue for the weather here in June!

Birmingham Barons
New to the baseball forecasts this year are the Birmingham Barons. They start a home series against our other forecast team, the Rocket City Trash Pandas, tonight at 6pm CDT. Temperatures will start in the mid-80s and cool down to the upper-70s by the final innings of the game. Humidity will be around 50% for the majority of the game with clear skies. Winds at the surface will be calm, with winds at 150ft pointing towards the third base foul line at around 10 mph. This may cause hitters to have more fly balls that foul out towards left field. A pretty warm evening, but the low humidity will make it feel much better!

The Barons continue playing the Trash Pandas in an afternoon game at 12:30pm CDT on Wednesday. Temperatures will be at their peak, especially in the second half of the game, and will be around 84 degrees. The mostly sunny skies will make the temperature feel warmer than it is. Humidity will be around 54% with a small chance for a scattered shower later in the game. Winds will be calm at the surface and will be around 13 mph at 150ft. These winds will be pointing towards the third base foul line. Just continue to be on the watch for those scattered showers and make sure to wear sunscreen and hydrate if you plan on attending this game!

Thursday’s game against the Trash Pandas starts at 7pm CDT. Temperatures will be in the low-80s with humidty starting around 60% and increasing to 75% by the final innings. It will be a clear evening with calm winds at the surface. At 150ft winds won’t be much stronger, only around 7 mph. These calmer winds will be blowing towards the third baseline but will likely have minimal effect on gameplay. The biggest effect on gameplay for this evening is the humidity, which will help allow the ball to rise more in the air. This is because higher humidity means theirs more moisture in the air and the air is less dense, which means the ball can travel further. Even though this effect is likely to only allow the ball to propel a few feet further, those few feet can make or break a home run.
