Baseball in New York this weekend as the Yankees and Cyclones are home! Not as hot as the start of this week but we might see some wet weather hit our areas of interest on Friday and Saturday. Below is a radar snippet of the northeast for the weekend just as reference. We are seeing a few storm systems but mostly scattered rain showers over our two ballparks which makes it difficult to know whether it will 100% hit or not. As always with scattered showers, it’s best to check the local forecast as you get closer to game time for the most accurate rain forecast. Anyways, let’s jump into it!
New York Yankees
Tonight the Yankees start a home series against the Oakland Athletics at 7:05pm EDT. Temperatures will be much cooler than the start of the week with temperatures starting in the low-70s and cooling to the mid-60s by the time fireworks roll around at the end of the game. However, it will be a cloudy night so it won’t be the best for watching fireworks in that sense. Humidity will start around 68% and increase to around 81% by the final innings. Winds will be calm at the surface and at 150ft they will be around 13 mph pointing towards the third baseline. It will be a bit sticky but also cool which will feel better than the hot days we had and with the clouds no one will be in any direct sunlight. Just keep an eye out about those fireworks because of the cloud coverage!

Saturday afternoon’s home game against the Athletics takes place at 1:05pm EDT. Temperatures will be in the mid-80s for this game as we hit the hottest part of the day mid-game. Humidity will be around 68% but there will be some scattered showers around the area. No showers are expected to hit our area during the game but when leaving the game, some showers will start to move into the area. It will be partly cloudy for most of the game with calm surface winds. At 150ft the winds will be around 11 mph pointing towards left field. This might move fly balls towards left field more than usual. Overall a pretty hot game, especially since the sun will be right above most people’s heads it will feel even warmer.

The Yankees close out their home series against the Athletics at 1:35pm EDT on Sunday. It will be a clear afternoon with not a cloud in sight. This means direct sunlight on spectators and players alike as we head into the peak sun and heat of the day. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper-80s with humidity lingering around 50%. Air motion will be rising and with winds at 6 mph pointing towards right field, that may help fly balls get that extra inch over the wall. It will be pretty hot so be sure to wear appropriate clothing, wear sunscreen, and drink plenty of water to stay cool and hydrated throughout the game!

Brooklyn Cyclones
The Brooklyn Cyclones continue a home series against the Jersey Shore BlueClaws at 6:40pm EDT. It will be a cloudy and cool evening with total cloud coverage and temperatures in the upper-60s. Humidity will be around 80-90% which will leave a damp feeling in the air. It shouldn’t rain over our area but some drizzle is possible. Surface winds will be around 10 mph while up at 150ft they will be around 18 mph. These winds will be pointing towards home plate which means it will be quite hard to get those fly balls over the wall tonight. Like the Yankees, the Cyclones have fireworks tonight but the cloud coverage may affect their timing so just be on the watch for that!

On Saturday night the Cyclones play the BlueClaws at 6pm EDT. The first few innings are likely to experience some rain but as the scheduled gamete continues, a line of showers will start to move into the area and will likely produce rain for the remainder of the game. The showers are not expected to be heavy so they should be able to play through it. Temperatures will start in the low-80s but cool to the mid-70s while humidity starts at around 80% and increases to around 90%. Winds at the surface will be around 6 mph and at 150ft they will be around 11 mph. These winds will be pointing towards the left field foul line. The air will be rising as this rain system moves into the region which will be beneficial to fly balls, however if it starts to rain, the moisture will make the ball heavy and make them sink down. Just come prepared for a rain potential if you plan on attending this game!

Closing out the series against the BlueClaws, the Cyclones play at 2pm EDT on Sunday. It will be a pretty clear afternoon with a few clouds coming through in the late innings. Temperatures will be in the low-80s with surface winds around 5 mph. Winds at 150ft will be around 8 mph pointing towards the infield. Humidity will start around 63% and increase to around 79% by the end of the game. Since this is a midday game, we mindful of the hot temperatures and with the increasing humidity, the air will feel heavier and hotter. Be sure to drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen so you can enjoy the game!
