7/12/25 920p – Brief Tropical Update

There is an area worth watching in the Tropics. The Interns will ahve a look at this in the coming days – and I’ll also post some updates, too.

The NHC is giving this area a 20% shot to develop into a Tropical Depression during the next 7 days.

As it moves west, conditions could become favorable for it to slowly organize during the middle to late part of next week, especially as it tracks across the northeastern and north-central Gulf.

But it will depend on the track. The farther out into the Gulf, the better shot it has to “do something” versus if it is closer to shore.

Either way, the current round of model guidance is rather unimpressed.

Whether it develops or not… it looks to bring the potential for heavy rain, and that could lead to some localized flash flooding in parts of the area by mid-to-late next week.

Deterministic model guidance is showing 2″ to 6″ of rain possible. closer to the coast, but I have a feeling some of the higher totals may spread inland as we get closer in time.
