Summer baseball is back in full swing. Two of our southeast teams are home this weekend and the Yanks join them by hanging out in Atlanta. Some scattered showers coming from the Gulf but nothing too crazy for our region. Let’s get into the details!

New York Yankees

The Yankees play against the Braves in Atlanta tonight at 7:15pm EDT. Temperatures will be in the upper-80s for the majority of the game with humidity around 45%. It will start quite cloudy but clouds will start to clear by the final innings. Winds at the surface will be around 5 mph and at 150ft they will be around 10 mph pointing towards the left field foul line. Air motion will be posting rising but not enough to make significant impacts on ball motion. Quite a hot night, especially until the sun goes down so be sure to stay cool and hydrate. The post-game fireworks show will likely go on as planned, with no real chance for rain and minimal cloud coverage by the end of the game.

The Yankees continue their away series against the Braves at 7:15pm EDT on Saturday. Temperatures will be in the upper-80s with humidity at around 50% to start the game but will climb up to around 62% by the end of the game. It will be a fairly clear evening with clouds moving out of the area during the game. Surface winds will be around 6 mph while up at 150ft, they will be around 10 mph. These winds will be pointing towards the third base foul line which may affect some fly balls. Air motion will be neutral so overall, it will just be another hot evening for baseball!

The Yankees finish their series against the Braves on Sunday afternoon at 1:35pm EDT. Temperatures will be in the low-90s and gradually increasing as we hit the hottest temperatures of the day. Cloud coverage won’t be helpful with partly cloudy skies allowing for plenty of sunshine to beat down overhead. Humidity will be around 50% with surface winds of around 6 mph. At 150ft winds will be pointing towards left field at around 9 mph. A really hot afternoon so be sure to drink water, wear sunscreen, and take breaks if you plan on attending that game. Also expect players to be more sluggish and take more breaks due to playing the whole weekend in the heat.

Birmingham Barons

The Barons start a home series at 7pm CDT tonight against the Knoxville Smokies. It will be a cloudy night with some lingering showers in the area for the first few scheduled innings. If the field is too damp their may be a delay however, it should be ok. It will remain cloudy throughout the game and humidity will stick around at around 88%. Temperatures will be around 76 degrees with calm surface winds. At 150ft, winds will be around 10-13 mph pointing towards left field. Be on the watch for any delays in game time as showers stay nearby.

The Barons continue their home series against the Smokies on Saturday at 6:30pm CDT. Temperatures will be in the mid-80s with humidity at around 60-70%. It will be a partly cloud evening with winds around 7 mph at the surface. At 150ft, winds will be around 12 mph pointing towards left field. Another hot and humid evening but a fairly clear night for some baseball!

*I apologize for no graphic but when there is “two” games on one day, the code gets confused and since tonight’s 7pm is considered 0Z on 7/19, the 6:30pm or 23:30Z on 7/19 game won’t show.*

Sunday afternoon’s 4pm CDT game against the Smokies will conclude their weekend home series. It will be a mostly cloudy evening as we see some scattered showers in the region. None should affect the game but it is something to note for people traveling a little further for the game. Temperatures will be in the low-90s to upper-80s with humidity from 50-60%. Surface winds will be calm with winds at 150ft around 10 mph pointing towards center field. Air motion will be sinking which won’t be great for fly balls but a good hitter can hit homers no matter the weather!

Rocket City Trash Pandas

The Trash Pandas start a home series this weekend against the Columbus Clingstones at 6:35pm CDT. It will be a cloudy evening with rain showers moving into the area by the final innings of the game. This might make everything damp, but they shouldn’t be heavy enough to have to cancel the game. This may affect the scheduled post-game fireworks. Humidity will increase as showers come in from 50% to almost 90%. Temperatures will cool down going from around 90 degrees at the start of the game to 74 degrees after sunset. Winds will start to pick up as rain moves in. While the surface will stay calm, at 150ft winds will go from 11 mph to 20 mph by the last innings. These winds will point towards left field and the left field foul line. There is a chance for these showers to produce thunder and lightning nearby so be sure to check the local weather as we get closer to game time tonight!

Baseball Forecast for Friday at Toyota Field

The Trash Pandas continue their home series against the Clingstones at 6:35pm CDT Saturday. Temperatures will be in the mid-80s with humidity around 70%. It will be a partly cloudy evening with the chance for some lingering showers that could produce thunder. However, I don’t believe anything will affect the game as of now although with these small showers is it best to check closer to the game time. Surface winds will be calm while at 150ft they will be around 14 mph pointing towards left field. Air motion will be slightly sinking which isn’t the best for fly balls but the winds may just help push past that. It will feel fairly hot and sticky, even after sunset so be sure to be hydrated before the game as even just spectating, you might get sweaty!

Baseball Forecast for Saturday at Toyota Field

Sunday’s game finishes the home series against the Clingstones at 2:35pm CDT. Temperatures will be around 90 degrees with aptly cloudy skies. As we head into the hottest part of the day, it will be important to protect yourself from the suns rays directly overhead. Humidity will be around 58% with calm surface winds. At 150ft, winds will be pointing towards left field around 10 mph. Air motion will be slightly rising which will help, with the slight winds, to get fly balls those extra inches. There are nearby scattered thunderstorms, but none should affect the game and it will just be a hot afternoon!
