Happy August, but it doesn’t quite feel like August in the eastern US because of a cold front that’s bringing colder temperatures to the east. The southeast sees temperatures more common for the fall months and a the northeast gets a break from the humidity. The Yankees play in Miami so the weather there is about normal for the weekend. Let’s dive into the details!
New York Yankees
The Yankees start an away series against the Marlins tonight in Miami at 7:10pm EDT. It will be a clear evening with temperatures in the mid-80s and humidity around 65-70% which is average in South Florida. Winds will be calm at the surface and at 150ft they will be around 12 mph for the game. These winds will be blowing towards the infield which won’t be great for batters trying to get those fly balls out. Overall, a pretty clear and nice evening which may mean the roof might be open for this one!

The Yankees continue their away series against the Marlins on Saturday at 4:10pm EDT. Another clear game with temperatures in the low-90s and humidity around 50-55%. Winds will be quite calm at then surface and around 11 mph at 150ft. These winds will be pointing towards the infield and will affect ball motion if the roof is open for this game. Air motion is also naturally sinking which will further keep those pop flys infield more. A hot one, especially if the roof is open and sitting in the sun for this one!

Sunday concludes the Yankees’ away series against the Marlins at 1:40pm EDT. Temperatures will be around 93 degrees with sunny skies that will make it feel much hotter if the roof is open. Humidity will be around 43% with calm surface winds. Winds at 150ft will be pointing towards the infield around 11 mph. Air motion will be sinking which won’t be great for hitters with fly balls. A really hot afternoon as we hit peak temperatures during the game so be sure to hydrate and stay cool during this game if you are attending!

Brooklyn Cyclones

Humidity will be around 70-75% which will leave a sticky feeling in the air. Surface winds will be around 5 mph while up at 150ft they will be around 7 mph pointing towards right field. The Cyclones continue their home series against the BlueClaws on Saturday night at 6pm EDT. Temperatures will be in the mid-70s with humidity of 50-60% that will be increasing throughout the game. It will be a clear night with calm winds at all levels. Air motion will be our biggest effect on ball motion as we have a lot of sinking air with a cold front having pushed through the region. This sinking air will make balls heavier and won’t allow them to travel as far through the air. For spectators it will be a lovely and cool game which will be a nice change of pace from the normal summertime heat.

Sunday will conclude the Cyclones home series against the BlueClaws at 2pm EDT. Temperatures will be around 81 degrees as we hit the hottest part of the day with clear skies. Humidity will be low, around 35% with calm surface winds. Winds at 150ft will be blowing towards left field at around 7 mph. A gorgeous afternoon for players and spectators alike, it will be a bit hot feeling in the sun but otherwise a really nice afternoon for some baseball!

Rocket City Trash Pandas
The Trash Pandas continue their home series at 6:35pm CDT tonight against our very own Birmingham Barons. It will be a cloudy evening with the chance for some lightning nearby however, none should affect the game. Temperatures will start at around 90 degrees but decrease to around 79 degrees as we see some colder air move into the area after sunset. Humidity will start around 50% but jump up to around 80% by the closing innings due to some rain moving closer to the area. Surface winds will be calm but at 150ft, they will be around 12 mph. Winds will start pointing towards right field but shift towards the infield as the game progresses and with sinking air, It will become more difficult for hitters as the night goes on. It might not be the clearest night for fireworks so they may not be the best tonight.

Saturday continues the home series for the Trash Pandas at 6:35pm CDT against the Barons. It will be another cloudy night with temperatures in the mid-80s. Humidity will be around 50-60% with calm surface winds. Winds at a 150ft will be blowing towards right field at around 10 mph. Sunday afternoon’s home game for the Trash Pandas will take place at 2:35pm CDT and will conclude their series against the Barons. As we hit the peak temperature of the day, it will be quite cool for an August day in Alabama with a high of around 82 degrees. It will be mostly cloudy so the sun won’t heat it up much and the cold air from up north is the reason for these temperatures. Humidity will be around 75% but lower to around 65% by the end of the game. Winds will be calm at the surface and around 15 mph at 150ft pointing towards the infield. There is a chance for a scattered thunderstorm during batting practice which may delay the game but the game is likely to start on time. Enjoy the cooler temps for this game and check out the local weather about thunderstorms the day of the game!
