Morning clouds finally gave way to some sunny skies later in the afternoon for a good ending to a more damp day after all the rain on Sunday. Highs reached the mid 70s today with north winds. This Halloween week will be a lot more fall-like with rain and cooler temperatures ahead. Let’s take a look.

Given the nature of this incoming cold front and the trough overhead moving it along, we can expect rain and cooler conditions to follow. The SPC has placed western Louisiana under a Marginal (1/5) risk for severe weather, however most of Mississippi is only under a thunderstorm risk. The CAPE values are modest, so some thunderstorms are possible, however I think much of this will mainly be scattered rain showers for much of us in the eastern end of Mississippi. Most of the storms look to arrive after sunset and meander until the early morning hours on Wednesday.

Wednesday will be a cool and breezy day with west winds blowing in around 10-15mph and wind gusts up to 30mph. Temperatures will only reach the mid 60s during the day with increasing clouds. Overnight, expect temperatures to fall into the upper 40s with mostly cloudy skies. As we roll into Thursday, expect another windy day with temperatures in the mid 60s and lows in the mid 40s. The winds will die down on Halloween with temperatures in the upper 60s and lows in the low 40s, so if you’re in your costume, definitely bring a jacket and maybe some long johns to keep yourself warm.
The Tropics

Hurricane Melissa is currently moving through Jamaica bringing torrential rainfall (over 30 inches, yes 30!) and 175mph winds to the island. This has been the strongest storm (Category 5) to hit the island in over 100 years. Many have evacuated to safer ground and away from the possible landslides that are forecast. Melissa is moving slowly towards the northern Caribbean where it is forecast to hit eastern Cuba, Haiti, and the Bahamas before moving out to the Atlantic. This thing is no joke. If you have any way to donate to those in need, please do so as there will be a lot of rebuilding in these countries.
