A few showers/storms today, then more Friday: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 3/8/23

A few storms will be possible later this afternoon and through this evening. Severe weather isn’t likely, but these storms may have some small hail and a lot of lightning.

A reminder: We are in Hail Season for the region. Usually it runs from about the last week in February through the first week in May. It lines up, closely, with Severe Weather Season, but instead of peaking in late April, Hail Season actually peaks in late March. We can still get hail in April, but it takes a much more potent setup to do it. Where right now, we can get hail with just about most any thunderstorm.

Any storms that develop today should fall apart overnight. While we can’t rule out an overnight shower or storm, most everything will be based on daytime heating a bit so once we lose that, we should lose some of the energy these storms need.

Once these move out, the next chance for rain will be Friday as a weak cold front sags into the area. More storms with some brief heavy rain, gusty wind and hail will be possible. Technical severe weather looks less likely, but like today we may see some noisy storms.

That should leave us dry (ish) for the weekend. We may have some more rain try to roll in Sunday night.
