Mild and damp to start December: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 12/1/22

Welcome to December! Quite the interesting weather pattern will be setting up during the next few days that should hold through most of next week. It is an unsettled pattern that will offer a chance for rain almost every day.

Through this weekend and into next week we develop a split flow in the atmosphere. All the cold gets trapped up north and the subtropical ridge to our south supplies our region with warm Gulf of Mexico air as well as just enough moisture to give us a chance for storms here and there.

And with the northern stream pretty active, as little systems zip by to the north, they’ll offer some lift and enough ‘umph’ to make that ‘here and there’ rain develop about every 48 hours.

But it won’t be a ton of rain. And it isn’t looking like much severe weather either.

Instead, between now and next Sunday, we are looking at light showers and a few moderate downpours leading to rain totals between about 0.25″ and 3″ in total across the entire southeast.

For those wondering, “Is this a good way for the area to get snow?” It is not, snow lovers, sorry. We really would need the subtropical ridge to the south to move to the east a bit before we start talking about a chance for snow. Instead, we will see highs in the 60s and 70s.
