October 13 southern Mississippi severe weather event: 1am Update

UPDATE: The 11am update for this event is located here

Before I hit the sack… The SPC just released the 6z forecast for Monday and it looks like this:

The first thing you may notice is that for the Pine Belt and most sections of southern Mississippi the roughest weather is to the north. But don’t let your guard down. The SPC still shows the region under a 2% and 5% tornado risk – the greatest risk across northern sections of the Pine Belt.

And yes, the atmospheric setup supports this forecast but so does history. Most of the tornadoes across the Pine Belt have happened – historically speaking – across the northern and north central counties of the Pine Belt.

If you’re reading this is Smith, Jasper, Clarke, Jefferson Davis, Covington, Jones or Wayne county please know that you have the highest risk of the Pine Belt for the roughest weather.

That means, if you live in one of those counties, please be prepared to see heavy – and perhaps flooding – rain, damaging winds in excess of 60mph, frequent lightning, small- to marginal-sized hail and the possibility of a few brief, isolated tornadoes.
