Rain returns Thursday, then a chilly weekend: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 11/8/21

We hav ea few newsmakers in the Weather Department this week with a front cruising through on Thursday and some pretty chilly air sneaking intot he region behind it.

That said, even this morning it is pretty chilly. An extra nudge of some cooler air at the lowest levels of the atmosphere allowed for temperatures to dip into the 30s in some spots overnight last night and into this morning.

Yes, that is a slew of 30s on the map! Mother Nature was handing out random 30s this morning like Oprah gave away books.

Today is the last day of chilly mornings, though, for a few days. As the wind flips back around to the south and we start to reintroduce Gulf moisture. That is ahead of the next system slated to move through on Thursday.

The cold front should push through on Thursday bringing a single round of storms with heavy rain, lightning, gusty wind and the potential for a severe storm or two.

But behind it, will be the first real cold shot of the year for the region. This air is pile driving into the South from the Yukon Territory. It will be heavily modified by then, but not enough to feel “warm” by any stretch. There is still a chance that it peels off to the east before making it south of I-20, but the chances it misses aren’t very high at all.

So, if you have a garden, flowers, potted plants outside, or any other vegetation that can’t handle extended periods of below-40-degree air, make plans to move those plants inside Thursday or Friday, because it looks like by this weekend it’ll be pretty chilly to start the morning.

I’d even say it’ll probably offer the region the first frost of the year for some of the rural, low-lying areas (at least).
