Severe weather projections project update

Good evening everyone!

I’m currently working through a way to get severe weather projections posted to the site while not over-crowding it with too many graphics. So a quick warning, you might notice some “digital dust” around the site.

Right now, you can see the severe weather threat and tornado threat – as issued by the Storm Prediction Center – on the right side of the page at all times. I think this is far too valuable to move. Or delete. Or even change.

For as good as our team is at predicting severe weather, we don’t have the tools, experience, or the manpower to stack up against the great people out in Norman, Oklahoma. Nor would we ever try to convince others to trust us instead of them.

That said, we are trying to offer additional graphical forecasts for you. They look like this:

These are more localized and are aimed at giving you a better idea of “how close” you may be to severe weather for that day, and the upcoming few days. These graphics would also include a brief write up with additional information about locations that might be more likely to see an enhanced severe weather threat.

While I continue to massage through this plan, I would love to hear from any of you on what you would prefer. Do you like stand-alone pages with just graphics? Do you enjoy reading a brief description, too? What are you looking for when you try to find severe weather forecasts?

Our end goal is to keep you informed about upcoming severe weather, so please bare with us over the coming few days as we wade through this process. And as always, any thoughts you have about our site are always welcomed!
