Sketchy Model Data – What’s an Intern to Do?

Good afternoon, y’all! This is your weather intern Noah and Kendall for your forecast for the rest of your week!

So, no bragging, but I will say that I’m proud that I got a lot of my forecast right, but I definitely didn’t anticipate how much rain dumped on Friday, and thankfully no reports of anything bad that night. The weekend was somewhat predictable with the rain coming in the afternoon and dying off by nighttime, so we got out okay. It looks like Beryl’s still trying, but that shear is spreading it out while it’s making its way over the Greater Antilles. Tropical Storm Chris (which could turn into Hurricane Chris, Ay Bay Bay) is moving its way up the Atlantic and slicing out away from the Eastern Coastline. We still have a ridge that’s making its way over the plains and into the Midwest making for warmer temperatures while we’ll still have somewhat cooler temperatures until the end of the week. Getting an influx of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico helping to create the rain we’ve been getting after the invest left on Sunday, so we’ll still see your typical afternoon thunderstorms for the rest of the week.

Tonight, there’s a slight chance of showers that are coming from a boundary to our West. The sea breeze might push some of the storms up our way, but most likely the counties to the south of Hattiesburg will receive most of the rain. Always worth checking your radar before going out, though. We’ll see a low of 72 by tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow, we’ll see partly to mostly cloudy skies throughout the day. There will be some developing low level and high level clouds later in the day which is a pretty good indication of some afternoon thunderstorms. By 7, we’ll see our low of 72 start to rise as the sun comes over the horizon with partly cloudy skies. At 10, partly to mostly cloudy skies with the temperatures in the low to mid 80’s. At 1, the temperature will bump up to around 87 with the developing cumulus clouds we typically see from all the moisture being lifted by daytime heating. At 4, expect some of the rain to start and a few thunderstorms depending on where you are. By 7, we’ll see the rest of the rain fall out before we cool off into the night.

I’ll leave Kendall with the rest of the forecast!

Howdy everyone! Kendall here with the weekly outlook. As suggested by the title, the European data, North American Mesoscale Forecast System, and the Global Forecast System predicted entirely different trends this week. So, as meteorology interns do with incoherent data, here is this week’s forecast:

On Wednesday, July 11th, the morning will start off with a low of 73°. The high will reach 91°, with winds out of the southwest at 5 mph. There is a 40% chance of rain, with possible showers in the late afternoon.

Thursday, July 12th, the morning low is 73° and the afternoon high is 73°. The day will be partly cloudy. There is a 40% chance of rain, with the ECMWF showing possible precipitation in the early evening. Winds will be out of the south at 6 mph.

Friday the 13th seems pretty lucky, with partly cloudy skies and only a 30% chance of rain. There is a low of 73° and a high of 92°. The day will be mostly sunny, with a chance of showers in the evening. Winds will be out the southwest at 3 mph.

Saturday, July 14th, will be mostly sunny with a 20% chance of rain. The high is 94° and the low is 74°. Winds will be out of the southwest at 3 mph.

Sunday, July 15th, the high is 94° and the low is 74°. Winds will be out of the southwest at 3 mph. Skies will be partly cloudy, with a 40% chance of rain in the afternoon.

Monday, July 16th, the high is 94° and the low is 73°. Expect partly cloudy conditions, with a 30% chance of rain. Winds will be out of the southwest at 3 mph.

Thank you so much for reading the forecast, and we will post further updates as the model data (hopefully) begins to line up again. Enjoy your week!
