Southern MS / AL / LA Weather Forecast 9/24/21

Another “boring” forecast that will be really – REALLY! – nice. Only a few clouds with no real threat for rain during the next few days. It looks like any and all rain will be staying away from the MSALLA region until at least Tuesday of next week.

And even then, it won’t be much. And most of it will be west of the area. In fact, both the GFS and ECMWF computer weather models keep the area completely dry through 10 days.

And the gFS keeps most of the area dry for 14 days.

Do I trust the accuracy of either of those models that it will be that dry?

To borrow a line from the NWS:

But I do think we get at least another four days of dry, perhaps five, before a stray shower or storms can’t be ruled out. But we are starting to run out of enough energy from the sun to get ‘summertime’ storms to develop as easily.

So, for those of you who enjoy being outside without worrying about thunderstorms, you are definitely in luck. You get a great weekend and perhaps part of next week.

Tropical Note

Hurricane Sam is floating around in the Atlantic and isn’t going to be much of a problem for the Gulf Coast. The good news for us is that this thing is gaining strength very quickly. And much like other tropical systems in the open Atlantic, when it gains strength fast, it wants to turn north.

The turn north depicted in the forecast here may not be as comforting-looking as it will end up being. This turn is into a weakness between two ridges and ahead of a developing trough. All of those things will help to usher Sam to the north and away from land.
