Summer Heat Intensifies: Regional Forecast- 6/28/26

Currently, temperatures across the region are sitting in the low to mid 90s as we approach the hottest part of the day. Rain chances remain low through tonight, though a few isolated showers may develop during the afternoon, quickly diminishing after sunset.

Looking at today’s maximum temperatures, portions of the region could experience dangerous heat, with Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Watches in effect. While much of the South is experiencing above-average temperatures, the greatest heat impacts are expected across Mississippi, Alabama, and northwestern Louisiana, where the National Weather Service has issued heat-related alerts.

There’s a slight chance for a few afternoon showers to pop up across southern Louisiana and eastern Alabama, according to the National Forecast Chart from the NWS. But a strong area of high pressure hanging off the Gulf Coast is keeping things pretty quiet, with sinking air limiting cloud and thunderstorm development despite the heat.

Overall, the big picture over the next several days is the heat across the region. Make sure you’re taking precautions and staying aware of heat-related illnesses, as conditions will remain hot and potentially dangerous.
