The heat is on in the Southeast US, with the occasional thunderstorm or two: Southern LA/MS/AL Weather Forecast – 6/27/2023

Summertime is in full swing across the southeastern United States as the heat continues to be on the rise. Throughout much of the entire area over the coming week, temperatures will rise to between the mid 90s and low to mid 100s. Not to be left out of the equation though, we will still continue to have sporadic chances for showers and thunderstorms for the majority of the forecast period this week.

Today and Tomorrow

Over today and tomorrow, many of us here in the Southern LA/MS/AL area will begin to really feel the surging heat, as a mid/upper-level high pressure system situated over Texas slowly begins to build east and spread its influence over our area. With the aforementioned temperatures, paired with dew point temperatures in the 70s, thick, wearable, oppressive air will remain dominant. This combination will allow heat indices to easily clear past the mid 100s, possibly getting as high as the mid 110s. It goes without saying that this kind of heat is extremely dangerous and can have potentially serious consequences for those sensitive to high temperatures or those doing strenuous activities outside. Safety precautions to protect yourself from the heat should be taken by keeping yourself well hydrated and taking breaks in the shade or indoors in the AC.

Outside of the heat, chances for some showers and thunderstorms will linger around in the early morning hours today and into tomorrow. Moving in from the northwest, these storms look to traverse the area throughout the morning before fizzling out by the early afternoon. On Wednesday morning, another disturbance may come through the northern and eastern portions of our area. While these storms should remain below severe limits, one or two may attain severe status with the primary concern being damaging winds.

Extended Outlook

The upper-level ridge in Texas will continue to build eastward and overspread our area throughout the rest of the week. This will help to keep temperatures well above average for this time of the year, as well as lower the potential for organized convection. Overall, this pattern does look to hang around before we possibly get some relief by the weekend and early next week. Breaking down of this high-pressure system looks to occur, allowing more zonal flow aloft and the chance for temperatures to return to around normal for this time of the year, as well as allowing the chance for rainfall to increase heading into next week.
