VIDEO: New NickelBlock Forecasting weather app walkthrough (the Alpha Test)

I used to get asked – a lot – about which weather app is the best weather app. And I actually have a post on this site that I never ended up publishing that went through a handful of different weather apps to identify the best and worst apps based on options, radar, forecast ability, level of detail, etc.

But after all of that research I stopped and thought, ‘heck, why don’t I just make my own?’

So, with the help of Baron Weather in Huntsville, Alabama… I did.

The app isn’t available, publicly, quite yet… but it is getting close. We continue to work through a few issues but this should give you an idea about what it is capable of doing for you.

And why I think it is the last weather app you’ll ever need.

This thing has it all: Current conditions, hourly forecasts, daily forecasts, radar, model data ont eh radar, detailed forecasts, severe weather forecasts, tropical forecasts, monthly and seasonal outlooks, river level updates/forecasts from the LMRFC, Weather safety tips, hurricane prep tips, short-range national forecasts from the NWS and medium-range forecasts from the NWS, and – of course – a link to live storm coverage (which I may be moving to youtube, but more on that at a later time).

We still have a few kinks to work out. On some phones it isn’t playing nice with Wi-Fi rather than cell networks, and it is struggling to search for cities when you type them in (though you can still find them on the map), and there are a few other little bugs and tweaks needed.

Once I run through this bad boy a bit more and shake out as many bugs as I can… I’ll release it publicly and everyone can download it.
