It’s a beautiful sunny day across much of the region, though scattered thunderstorms are ongoing around Jackson and areas south of New Orleans.

Scattered thunderstorms will continue through this evening, mainly east of I-55, including areas such as Hattiesburg, Wiggins, Columbia, and New Orleans. The main threats will be heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, gusty winds, and we can’t rule out a weak, brief tornado.

The heat is also making a comeback across the Southeast. Heat indices are ranging from 97° in Hattiesburg to 101° in Baton Rouge. If you’re spending time outside, be sure to take plenty of breaks and drink lots of water to avoid heat exhaustion.
