Hey everyone! I hope everyone has been well! While temperatures were up there today in the low 80s, it shouldn’t have felt too oppressive, since dew point values have only been in the 40s and 50s, meaning there’s been pretty low humidity. A few areas also saw some isolated onshore showers throughout the afternoon, while others stayed dry. A similar story will play out tomorrow, since we have that leftover front over Texas and the northern Gulf hanging around, while the high pressure over northern Mississippi tries to suppress it. For Thursday, it’s out of here, and we’re mainly dry, aside from one or two popups over Louisiana, possible.

Each day this week, we will see our dew point increase into the 60s and 70s through Friday and into Sunday, which will prime the atmosphere for some rain and storms over the weekend and early next week. The NWS and WPC are showing generally more rain the farther north you go, as that’s where each of the multiple storm systems will pass through most, but we could see anywhere from 1-3 inches, perhaps more, depending on storm coverage. There’s a chance some of these storms could be severe, since the SPC has already highlighted a 15% risk of severe weather for Monday, which is Day 7! We will keep you updated with the latest and give you a much more detailed look at it as we get closer, but plan for the chance of rain each day, Friday through Tuesday!

Happy Earth Day! For tomorrow, Wednesday, that stationary front I mentioned will try to bring some moisture northward, which could allow for some isolated showers in the morning or afternoon from the south. Otherwise, we will be dry, with a mix of sun and clouds, and highs near 80. Humidity will not be bad at all, but, as I said earlier, a little more than today, and increasing each day.

Thursday’s Forecast: April 23rd

High Temperatures for Thursday

The sun really comes out for Thursday, but with that comes moderate humidity. Similar temperatures in the lower 80s are to be expected. No rain in the forecast, so enjoy the day outside if you can!

Last Week’s Drought Monitor
This Week’s Drought Monitor

We could really use the rain that we will see this weekend and early next week. The drought monitor shows a worsening drought in our region when comparing last week’s and this week’s. Lots of locations that were just in the “Abnormally Dry” category are now under a “Moderate Drought”, highlighting the need for some rain. Luckily, we have a huge green blob right over us in the CPC’s 6-10-day precipitation probability outlook, showing that the CPC agrees with us on a good chance of rain. This will not be a drought killer, but it will help make some progress if we get a good amount of rain coverage.
