It is now the second day of hurricane season.
There is still nothing developing.
This is good news.
As is usual for this time of year, the tropics are showing no signs of life in our area. This is common, most hurricane seasons don’t ramp up until July.

The main reasons for this are that the gulf waters are too cool and there is too much wind shear. Hurricanes need warm waters to fuel them and low wind shear to properly organize.

Right now, some models are showing the jet stream dipping south over the southeastern United States (12z GFS pictured has it as a cutoff low). This will work against tropical cyclone development in two ways. One, it will keep wind shear in the area which would weaken any potential storms. Secondly, it would work to steer any system away from the United States.
Overall, There does not appear to be any need to worry about hurricanes here for the foreseeable future.
