Howdy!
A little bit of cloud coverage currently (around 12:30 CST) and some showers in Mississippi and Alabama. Heat advisories are in effect for the majority of the region.

Highs today will be in the 90s and some areas seeing up to 100, heat index values reaching well above 100 for a majority of the region. A lot of the region is under the moderate, major, and extreme heat risk. Try to stay cool today.

A marginal risk of severe weather exits for portions of Alabama and Mississippi near the coast. These stronger storms could produce some locally strong wind gusts and heavy rain, stronger winds coming from possible microbursts.

The severe weather and pecipitation is due to the upper-ridge starting to weaken and retreat to the west, allowing a trough to start to build up over the region by the weekend. This will create some northerly flow and allow some shortwaves to embed into the flow, producing rain going into tomorrow and the weekend. A cold front will result from this trough, moving closer to the region by Saturday, also triggering precipitation.

A risk of excessive rainfall exists Saturday-Sunday. The greatest risk remains in central/northern Alabama and some parts of Georgia.

Temperatures will be slightly cooler than they have been, and looking ahead into next week, they will start to climb back up a bit as troughing moves out and some upper-ridging will build back over us. This will hinder the chance of rain, returning to the normal isolated showers and thunderstorms.

So for now, after the heat today, enjoy the slight bit of relief we will be getting for the next few days. Try to keep dry and see when the rain will impact your area so you are mindful of traveling!
