Mother Nature is turning up the stove on us.
Heat indexes are in the upper 90s and low 100s across the region. These values will continue to increase, peaking above 105. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids and take frequent breaks in the AC if you must be outside. Today would be a great day to go swimming.
Diurnal cumulus are developing across the region as the boundary layer warms. Given that we are directly under the ridge, vertical wind shear and lift will be nonexistent. In other words, storms are very unlikely for much of the region but we can’t rule out one or two updrafts breaching the lfc and briefly becoming thunderstorms. If this were to occur, storms would be very slow moving and only capable of heavy rain and lightning.
Clouds will clear out overnight as the nocturnal inversion sets it. Given the position of the high, lack of winds, and high relative humidity values, fog will be possible around sunrise. Use caution when encountering low visibility.
Tomorrow will be more of the same. Highs in the upper 90s and dewpoints in the 70s with miniscule chances of relief from storms. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for parts of central Mississippi to cover this risk. Winter is only a few months away…
