A bit of a soggy week for the area, but plenty of sunshine, too: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 8/1/22

If you are looking for some rain, I have good news: You’ll get the rain this week.

As the tail-end of a lingering front drifts south through the area, there should be just enough ‘umph’ in the atmosphere leftover to get an extra boost to the sea-breeze storms in the coming days. In fact, over the next three days, take a look at the maps below showing about 0.25″ of rain in some spots, but up to 1″ of rain in others.

So, like most days with summertime storms, some folks will see more rain than others. We still aren’t anticipating any severe weather and flooding isn’t as much of a concern, either.

On top of that, as we head toward the weekend, a little piece of atmosphere spin is going to wrap around a big ridge to our west and get plunked down intot he southeast and stretched apart.

What does that mean? We are still looking at a shot for showers as we move into the weekend, too.

  1. I’m hoping that, after a WHOLE week of rain, we’ll get a WHOLE week of dry weather?? Doesn’t it bother you, a little bit, how quiet the tropics are now? Don’t mind saying it’s a little worrisome for me.

    1. I hope you get a full dry week, but right now it looks like this pattern (though probably not quite as wet as it is right now) will hold into next week. And while the quiet tropics don’t concern me too much, I would be lying if I said it didn’t make me a bit more concerned about Rapidly Intensifying systems in the Gulf.

But storms have to get here first, and so far they have had a tough time with that. Lets all hope that keeps up!

  2. I’m thinking that as soon as the Saharan dust cloud starts dissipating, you may start seeing it. Like you, what scares me is the storm that develops in the GOM or western Caribbean where the preparation time will be only a 2 to 4 day period.
