At the End of the Line – Forecast for 8/11 through 8/17

Well, this is my last day interning for Nick. It’s been a summer with plenty of good opportunities and I’ve learned a lot. I never would have known how important figuring out patterns in Skew-T graphs would be so helpful and I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into.

I thought I would have to use all these crazy equations I got from my synoptic and physical meteorology classes, but instead it was application. Finally being able to use the concepts I’ve been taught, figuring out the errors in my own forecasts based on the numbers I saw, and timing out when storms are going to pass through are just a few of the good things I gained while I was here.

I’ve made good memories, a few friends, and I’ve been busy enough to keep my mind occupied. I have to give a big thank you to Nick, Patrick, Rex, Emily, Kendall, and WDAM for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the weather team this Summer. So anyways, here’s the forecast!

Short Term

Tomorrow, our chances of rain have slightly diminished especially after the the front passed through today with all the storms, but there still is a decent chance of some pop-up thunderstorms despite dropping it down to 30%. Don’t be surprised if you see a shower or thunderstorm coming your way. Winds are coming out of the West Northwest earlier in the day, but calming down by sunset.

7 am – Fair skies with the low of 73 starting to warm up

10 am – A few clouds starting to develop, but still warming up to the mid-80s, so if you’re planning on doing any yardwork, I’d suggest wearing something brighter and lighter since it’s going to stay hot throughout the afternoon

1 pm – We’ll hop into the upper 80s to the low 90s with some cumulus clouds starting to form

4 pm – Our best chance of rain will be around the mid-afternoon as usual, but otherwise partly cloudy skies with our high at 92

7 pm – The chances of rain start to slim down, however there is always a chance of an isolated shower before the sun goes down with temperatures in the mid to upper 80s

Long Term

Sunday – We’ll see some partly to mostly cloudy skies throughout the day with hot temperatures until the rain comes in. High of 93, low of 74 and winds North at 5-10 mph.

Monday – A chance of afternoon thunderstorms, but otherwise partly cloudy with the heat staying around. high of 92, low of 75, and winds Northwest at 5-10 mph.

Tuesday – A slight chance of afternoon showers, but otherwise hot and partly cloudy with little wind. High of 93 and a low of 74.

Wednesday – Same story and a front is on its way. High of 93, low of 75 and winds South at 5-10 mph.

Thursday – A front makes it’s way through and the Southwestern winds will help with some convection and a 40% chance of rain. High of 91, low of 75 and winds Southwest at 5-10 mph.

Friday – Some leftover clouds will pass through from the front, but otherwise partly cloudy with a slight chance of afternoon rain. High of 92, low of 72 and winds Southwest at 5-10 mph.

Thanks to everyone who read my forecasts, commented and liked my posts on Facebook and Twitter. It’s been an honor to work with Nick, Patrick, Rex, Emily, Kendall and everyone at WDAM this Summer.
