Showers and storms with the potential for severe weather is the name of the game today and tonight across the region.

The timeline from the latest data suggests storms start as early as about 11a and linger through 11p tonight with the potential for heavy rain, flash flooding, lightning, gusty wind, hail, and a few tornadoes.

Today
Showers, thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms may be severe in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 70s. South winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Chance of rain near 100 percent. 1″ to 3″ of rain likely. Up to 6″ possible.

Tonight
Lingering storms. Some severe. Tornado threat lower, but not zero. Lows around 60. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Sunny. Less humid with highs in the lower 70s. West winds 5 to 10 mph.
