Fog tomorrow morning, then a shot for some showers this weekend: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 11/7/23

Over the next few days, the weather outlook indicates varying conditions. Tonight, a mean ridge position between 850-700mb will form in the northeastern Gulf, promoting stronger low-level southwesterly return flow. This will facilitate higher dewpoints, particularly in regions west of I-55 and along the Hwy 49 corridor, resulting in warmer lows in the low to mid-60s. And we could see some fog overnight.

As for Wednesday through Monday night, high pressure at the surface and aloft will dominate the area, maintaining mostly dry conditions. Wednesday will see highs in the low 80s with limited fire weather concerns given the higher humidity and weaker wind.

Thursday will be a repeat performance with patchy fog in the morning and afternoon highs around 80.

Then we start to get into a chance for rain as we move through Friday, and the weekend.

A frontal boundary dropping into north Mississippi on Thursday night and advancing southward into Friday. Off and on showers will develop and should persist through the weekend due to weak short waves moving across the area. Rain is likely to diminish from west to east on Sunday with highs primarily in the 60s and lows in the 40s and low 50s.

This won’t be a big rainmaker, though, as the total expected rainfall across the area through Sunday is approximately half an inch.

The jury is still out on more chances for rain as we move through next week. Currently the GFS computer weather model keeps us dry while the ECMWF computer weather models has two more shots for rain as we move through next week.

I know we need the rain, so I’ll continue to monitor things as best I can to make sure you guys know when you may see some beneficial rainfall.
