Gulf Coast Regional Forecast – 06/29/26

Good afternoon! As I’m writing this at 3:30p CDT, our radar is looking pretty quiet:

However, the radar doesn’t tell the full story of today’s weather across our region, the temperatures do.

The temperatures are currently in the hot low-mid 90s throughout our region. Currently, Baton Rouge is the “winner”, with a temperature of 95ºF being observed. The high temperature for the day is about at its peak right now, and will begin to cool down in a couple hours, but don’t expect much relief from the heat, as the humidity will rise as temperatures fall.

As for storms, tonight there is a chance of a few isolated thunderstorms. Most storms will pop up in the evening. There is a higher chance of storms in south-central Mississippi than anywhere else, but at least some isolated storms are likely elsewhere.

Later This Week

Temperatures will continue to be very hot this week as the southeast ridge continues to be anchored over our region. Tomorrow, we have one more day of hot temperatures and relatively small chances of storms, but that changes on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the ridge will be far enough to the south where parts of Louisiana will see lower level winds coming from the gulf, bringing in moisture to the low-mid level atmosphere, which will allow some potentially strong thunderstorms to develop.

The strongest storms on Wednesday evening will likely be in the Baton Rouge/Lafayette area. Be aware of potentially heavy rain, prolific lightning, and gusty winds.
