Current Conditions

We’re starting off with plenty of sunshine across southern Mississippi and Alabama, with most of the clouds hanging back to our west over Louisiana and Texas. Temperatures are in the upper 60s to lower 70s this morning, and dew points in the 50s are keeping things comfortable. The dry weather does come with continued fire concerns, though, so make sure we’re still not doing any burning!

The Setup

The rain is still a couple of states away, but we’re starting to see where our next weather change will come from. High pressure over the eastern U.S. keeps us dry today, while showers and storms develop across Texas and the central U.S. This weekend, an upper-level disturbance will move in from the Southern Plains, bringing enough moisture back for scattered showers and a few thunderstorms. Clouds will increase Friday, and rain chances will pick up Saturday into Sunday, so we might see some spooky showers during Trick-or-Treating.

Today’s Forecast: Thursday, October 29th

Today we will have afternoon highs reaching the upper 70s to lower 80s under mostly sunny skies. Humidity stays low, but with how dry the ground has been, fire danger remains elevated, as I mentioned. Tonight, temperatures will settle into the mid to upper 50s inland, with lower to mid 60s closer to the coast.

Tomorrow’s Forecast: Friday, October 30th

On Friday, we’ll see increased cloud cover as the system to our west moves closer. Those extra clouds won’t do much to keep temperatures down, with highs reaching the lower 80s across much of the area. We’ll stay mostly dry, but a spotty shower or two is possible heading into Friday night. It’ll be a warmer night, too, with lows only dropping into the lower to mid 60s inland and upper 60s along the coast.

Halloween Forecast: Saturday, October 31st 🎃 👻 💀🕷️🧛

Halloween is looking warm this year, with afternoon highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s. We’ll have more clouds around as the disturbance moves northeast toward the Mississippi Valley, along with increasing chances for scattered showers and a few thunderstorms.

For trick-or-treating, I wouldn’t cancel any plans just yet. Showers may hold off until evening across much of our area, and the scattered coverage means some neighborhoods could stay dry while others get a passing downpour. No severe weather is expected, but have somewhere indoors to go if you hear thunder.

The RRFS model below gives us an idea of how scattered the rain could be Saturday evening. Don’t focus on the exact placement of each shower this far out, but keep an umbrella handy and check the radar before heading out for candy!

Extended Local Outlook

5-Day Forecast // Courtesy: NWS Jackson

Rain chances stick around Sunday before we get a break Monday, but that break may be short-lived. Another system looks to bring showers and thunderstorms through around Tuesday or Wednesday. Some stronger storms could be possible with that one, though we still have a few days to sort out the timing and details. Temperatures will stay above average, with highs generally in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

November may be arriving, but cooler weather doesn’t look ready to settle in just yet. The outlook for November 3-7 favors above-average temperatures across our area, along with increased odds of above-average rainfall. Hopefully, that gives us more opportunities for much-needed rain as we head into the new month.
