Hit and miss storms today and tomorrow as Invest 91L continues to move northeast toward Florida: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 6/2/22

The showers and storms across parts of North Texas and Oklahoma will swing through parts of the region this evening and into the overnight hours. Most of the rain will slide by near and north of I-20 but a handful of storms will develop south of I-20, too.

Here is a timeline of the storms from Pivotal Weather:

Severe weather is not anticipated, but heavy rain, lightning and gusty wind will be possible. Given how warm it will be today, and how cool the air will be on the back-side of these storms, I would be surprised if we see some cool looking shelf clouds develop on the leading edge of the storms.

Once the storms roll through this evening and overnight, there may be just enough umph’ to squeeze out some storms in the morning on Friday. These wouldn’t be as robust, but they would require some extra time in the morning to get around if you have to travel.

Once we break out of these two batches of storms, we may have a quick shot for storms on Sunday and then it turns mostly dry all of next week.

Tropical Update

The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor Invest 91L off the coast of the Yucatan. They still give it an 80-percent chance for development.

Model guidance continues to show that if any development does occur, the storm will be disorganized and messy. Most guidance also shows the system crossing the Florida peninsula near Tampa and continuing out to sea.

Looking at the Rapid Intensification percentages from the SHIPS model, and the chances are actually lower than the climatological average.

So, even more evidence that this thing will be a mess.

It still means rain and gusty wind for Florida, but certainly not a well-organized powerful hurricane.
