Hot, highs around 100F the next few days, no good shot for rain: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 7/17/23

The big news today is likely the fallout from the dam break in Clarke County. If you didn’t hear, last night the dam on Archusa Creek in Clarke County, near Quitman, had a failure. The video is pretty incredible. IT has been shared across facebook and WTOK up in Meridian – I believe – was showing it on air.

This will also have impacts downstream, as the water from behind the dam flows into the Chickasawhay.

And this is very poor timing as things are about to get pretty warm. The next few days will be the start of the drier air grabbing hold. And it will be plenty hot. And there will still be humidity in the air, too. But the northwest flow will shift its attention, and rain, a bit farther north and allow our area to dry out a bit.

And when I say “plenty hot” I mean it.

Here are a look at temperatures for the next two days – upper 90s to around 100F.

And there won’t be much of a wind to help cool you off, either.

Sp make sure you are drinking a lot of water, taking breaks if you have to work outside, and hanging out int eh shade or in the AC when possible. Also make sure to check on those without easy access to AC, as they may need some help keeping cool in this heat.
