It’s Summer. It’s the South. It’s Hot. Are You Surprised Yet?

Hey, y’all! I’ll be covering the short term forecast for tomorrow while Kendall takes care of what’s going on for the rest of the week!

Tonight there is a possible chance of rain from a leftover circulation of the tail end mid-latitude cyclone that came through yesterday. That was definitely a major surprise seeing a cyclone that developed happen over the summer and what a way to start it off! We have a lot of the moisture coming in from the gulf and the rest of that cold air is popping up a line of thunderstorms headed our way from the northwest. It should come in by the early evening and linger around for a few hours, so definitely keep the umbrella by your side! There is a slight chance of rain going into the early morning for the northern counties such as Covington and Jones County, but a small chance at that and it should dissipate by sunrise.

If you’re in the southeastern Mississippi area, be sure to check out my blog before you get your weekend started! Here’s the mid-latitude cyclone that came through yesterday bringing in all the rain and thunder. pic.twitter.com/uuhVX3lRoJ

So, like any other time in the summer, it’s gonna be hot! If you have a way to cool yourself off, I’d find it or grab it. There will be a few clouds throughout the day, but none to keep the heat away for a long time. I’d suggest hitting the pool if you have one or can go to one, but sprinklers and slip n’ slides will also do the trick! I suggest shorts and a lighter colored top so you can reflect the sun off of you to keep you cool. Bug spray and sunscreen wouldn’t be a bad idea either if you’re planning on staying out in the sun and going into some wooded areas.

Morning time will start off around 75 at 7 in the morning with a few clouds around. By mid morning we’ll see the temperatures rise to the low 80’s with fair skies above us. The trend continues into the early afternoon where we’ll break 90 degrees after noon. Our high of 93 will be accompanied by a few clouds at the lower levels (probably some puffy cumulus clouds) by mid afternoon. By late afternoon, we’ll fall under the 90 mark to around 86 before the sun goes down. It’s gonna be a hot one y’all, and like I said, make sure to keep water on you and stay hydrated for your own sake!

Sunday is looking warmer with a few clouds throughout the day and a small chance of rain within the area. It’s going to heat up a little more with a high of 94 and a low of 75.  By the time you get out of church, the heat is going to be dialed up! Since the moisture is going away with that cyclone, we’ll feel warmer but drier during these next few days. We’re basically trading one kind of misery for the other, so either way we’re not going to win, but that’s just summer in the South.

Anyways, I’ll leave it to Kendall for the outlook to the rest of your week. Have a good weekend!

Good afternoon! It’s Kendall (the super-new weather intern at WDAM) with the Hattiesburg weather outlook for the rest of the week! (for a more in depth look at this weekend’s outlook, see Noah’s post from today). This whole week is going to be a hot one, starting out dry and moving to a chance for some precipitation later in the week.

Tomorrow, June 23rd, will be mostly sunny with a few scattered clouds, with a 20% for precipitation. Expect a low in the morning of 75°  and high around 93° in the mid-afternoon.

Sunday, June 24th, is the perfect day for outdoor recreational activities, if you are planning them. Conditions will be partly cloudy with some fluffy cumulus clouds, with only a 10% chance of rain. Make sure if you are outdoors you wear sunscreen and STAY HYDRATED, because the temperature will reach a high of 94°, and will dip to a low of 75°.

If Sunday seemed hot, on Monday, June 25th, the temperatures are expected to reach a whopping 97°, with a low of 74°. There may be scattered clouds, but the numbers point to mostly sunny weather. The chance of rain is about 20%.

On Tuesday, June 26th, the temperature may be a couple degrees “cooler,” with a high of 95° and a low of 74°. Fortunately, there will be decent cloud cover to keep things cooler than the days prior, with a 20% chance for rain.

Keep your eyes peeled on Wednesday, June 27th. Strong pockets of vorticity to the northeast of us may bring thunderstorms in the afternoon, with a 40% chance of rain. This may be subject to change as the week progresses (of course), but it is something to look out for when making weekly plans. The weather will otherwise be partly cloudy, with a high of 93° and a low of 73°.

Thursday, June 28th, will be mostly sunny with a high of 95° and a low of 74° . There is a 30% chance of  isolated showers in the afternoon.

On Friday, June 29th, the weather “cools” off a little bit again (if you can even call it that), with a low of 73° in the early morning, and heating up to a high of 93° in the afternoon. Expect mostly sunny conditions, with about a 30% chance of rain later in the day.

Thank you so much for reading my forecast! Have a fantastic week ahead as we wrap up the month of June!
