Morning drizzle & snow flurries possible, then just breezy and cold: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 1/16/22

If you’re up early this morning you may be catching a few passing flurries, particularly to the north. But these little pockets are likely going to popup here and there throughout the morning. So if you haven’t seen anything yet, there is still time.

A big thank you to one of our newest supporters.

Looking at the model guidance for the rest of the morning, as the area of low pressure pinwheels away from the area, there is still a little leftover forcing and moisture to squeeze out some precip.

Let’s look at the atmosphere… mathematically!

The top two circles are showing that there is no forcing (left) in the Dendritic Growth Zone (right) while there lower circles are showing forcing (left) in the region of the atmosphere right above the surface (right)

That leaves us with a map that looks like the one below. A few ice crystal flurries here and there, with most of the heavier snow to the snow and to the east.

And the data suggests the flurries may last past sunrise and all the way through baout 9a or 10a this morning.

So if you are headed to services – and the later ones – bundle up and keep your eyes peeled for a few wayward snow flurries.

The good news is that this precip is so light that is won’t really impact travel. The roads may be a bit wet, but they won’t be frozen. So long as you treat you drives today like you would in the rain, you’ll be fine.

Once the precip comes to an end, the only thing left to worry about is the cold breeze.

Wind chill values may not make it out of the 20s for some folks this afternoon, so bundle up!
