Quite Warm, Heat Index values exceeding 110F with more overnight storms: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 6/26/23

The storms last night whipped through with a lot of heavy rain, strong wind and some hail – depending on your location. Today, in their wake, it will be pretty hot and humid. Then,we will likely see a similar situation tonight, with more storms. Though, the rain tonight may be spotty.

Temperatures this afternoon will tag the upper 90s in many spots. Couple that with the higher humidity values from the rain overnight and Heat Index values will be as high as 110F nearly across the board today. Some folks will see values as high as 115F.

I know it gets hot here in the summers, but this is the dangerous stuff.

Drink plenty of water, even if you’re only outside for a little while. Take plenty of breaks if you are working in these conditions. And get to the shade or into some AC if you start to feel nauseous or light-headed from the heat.

And, please, check on folks that don’t have easy access to Air Conditioning.

HRRR model guidance for Heat Index

After having a brief chat with the folks at the NWS, they warned me that the model guidance may not be telling the whole story with the heat and it is likely under-doing the warmth. And looking at the map above, I’d tend to agree.

Here is a look at the Apparent Temperatures – this takes temperature, humidity, wind, and the sun into account – from our in-house model that is a blend of a few different models and then assisted by AI. This is what it will feel like to walk down the street, today. Around 111F in Hattiesburg, 110F in Laurel. 109F in Columbia. McComb at 110F. And down in Louisiana, whew! around 115F in Hammond and Covington!

Again, this is hot stuff. And dangerous.

We will also see the chance for storms overnight to help cool things down, but any storms would be pretty spotty.
