Rainy pattern to keep temperatures near normal for next 7 days: SW Mississippi – 8/4/22

Today’s weather will be a great example of the conditions expected going into the weekend and through the middle of next week. Like early this morning, most forecasted low temperatures will hover in the low-70s. Today’s cloud coverage is an indication of a saturated atmosphere which has prompted moderate-to-high rain chances over the next 7 days; this will keep high temperatures in the upper-80s. Because of increased humidity, peak heat indices for the next 7 days will still range from 100F-to-105F.

Today has an 80-percent chance of rain and thunderstorms, most possible in the afternoon and evening. After today, rain chances decrease over the weekend to 40-to-50-percent before picking back up through the middle of next week. The constant possibility of rain in Southwest Mississippi through the middle of next week will lead to regional rain totals ranging from 1″-to-2″.

Air temperatures will oscillate ±3F around average with some areas warmer than others depending upon the location of showers and dense cloud coverage. This pattern will lead to highs near 90F instead of highs in the mid-to-upper-90s like the region had experienced earlier this summer. Of course, with increased moisture in the atmosphere, the heat indices will continue to be above 100F but should not exceed 105F like previous weeks.

Starting in the middle of next week, the temperature outlook has a 33-to-40-percent possibility of above average conditions. This pattern shift is possible if the high pressure system in the north-central US intensifies and expands southward. However, even with this possible shift, week two’s conditions will be similar to the weather over the next 7 days.
