Soggy, with storms and flooding possible today: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 8/10/22

There is a good chance for rain today. Some this morning. Some this afternoon. Some in teh middle of the day. It won’t be an ‘all day rain’ but with how off-and-on the rain may be in some spots, it might feel like that.

While for others, you’ll be left with just one round of rain.

This morning the Weather Prediction Center is monitoring parts of the area with the potential for flash flooding. This is mainly for southeastern MS and SW Alabama.

The WPC shows the chance for rainfall rates up to 2″ per hour. Given the already wet soil, it won’t take too much to see flooded streets and creeks starting to over-run their banks. River flooding at this point looks less likely.

The boundary moving north that is responsible for these storms isn’t moving very quickly, so storm may end up training over the same areas in some spots, too, increasing the risk for some flooding.

Looking at the forecast sounding for the area, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some pretty cool cloud formations with some of these storms, too. A bit like the other day with all of the shelf clouds.

As storms move through the area, remember that when thunder roars, head indoors! And when you come across a road covered in water, don’t try to drive through it,ebcause you never know what is – or is not – under the water.
