Still dry to start the week, some rain Wednesday, then dry again: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 10/10/22

We may be affected by some remnants of Hurricane Julia later this week. Yup! It looks like we may finally have a decent shot for rain – though it will be fleeting. So if you have any outdoor plans this week, Wednesday is going to be the day to avoid.

Otherwise, it is looking mostly sunny and mostly dry across the region.

Hurricane Julia made landfall over the weekend bringing a lot of heavy rain, wind, and surge to Nicaragua and Honduras. It is currently pegged to plop into the Pacific and continue chugging to the west. But a piece that got flayed off, will drift north into the gulf and eventually move toward an incoming front and help to offer a better chance for rain.

I’ve highlighted the piece, a moisture plume, that will lift northeast across the Gulf this week and help to boost our shot for rain as a front kicks through

Not bad, right?

The good news is there is almost no chance for this piece to turn into its own tropical system. I suppose the chance isn’t completely zero, but it may as well be. Instead, the extra low-level moisture will help to seed showers and storms around here as the next front arrive on Wednesday/Thursday

There won’t be a lot of rain, though. Totals looks to be less than 1.5″ of rain. It’ll help, but the area is currently “abnormally dry” according to the Drought Monitor and the NWS shows us running a few inches behind schedule on the year.

This should do enough to green things back up a bit, though, likely won’t end any burn bans locally.
