Turning much colder Thursday night, flash-freezing a potential: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 12/20/22

I’m starting to get a bit more concerned about some patchy flash freezing and pipe-bursting fromt eh quick onset of colder air Thursday night and into Friday morning.

Temperatures are going to crash Thursday night starting around 7p from around 55F to about 35F by 9p. Then sink further into the 20s by Friday morning

Higher resolution guidance shows that temperatures will crash back to below freezing with the dewpoint remaining closer to the temperature. That would leave very little room to evaporate any of the water that was on the ground.

That would, in turn, mean a higher chance for flash-freezing any of the water on the roads, sidewalks, etc. before it could evaporate.

Then we stay cold – and potentially below freezing – from Thursday night through Sunday afternoon. That means pipe bursts will be a concern. So, now is the time to insulate those pipes! Bring in the plants (if you haven’t already). And make plans to have somewhere for the pets to sleep inside. And make sure you also carve out some time to check on folks that don’t have easy access to heat.

We will finally start to warm things up as we head through next week.
