Two shots for storms, one as we close out 2022 and another as we start 2023: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 12/26/22

Just a quick look at the forecast this morning shows a chance for showers and storms as we move toward New Year’s Eve, but right now, it looks like most of the storms should be out of here by the time everyone wants to do any celebrating. So far, model guidance suggests December 30th as the main day for storms.

And then, beyond New Year’s Day, it looks like another show for storms around the 3rd of January.

I’m not certain of the severe weather threat at this time with either round of storms. It looks like all of the right puzzle pieces will be in place from about 2,000ft off the ground and up, but we may be missing some pieces (mainly heat) down closer to the ground.

So we are in a bit of a holding pattern when it comes to assessing the severe weather threat until we can get a better handle on how warm it will be at the surface. We should get a better idea as we head through this afternoon and evening, and then an even better idea tomorrow and the day after, too.
