A drizzly, breezy day for the Gulf Coast: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 10/11/23

I’m going to try this ‘different’ way of putting together the forecast one more day to get a feel for how everyone likes it. Again, instead of a “forecast discussion” first and then a “day by day” forecast second, I’ve – sort of – blended the two together.

Let me know what you think!

Looking at the radar this morning, we already have some patchy drizzle and light rain. Some of it isn’t reaching the ground quite yet, but I expect that everyone (south of I-20) should see at least a little rain today, especially after 1pm. Temperatures should reach around 70 degrees, but don’t expect a calm day. Winds will pick up, and gusts could reach as high as 35 mph by this afternoon and evening.

The chance of rain is pretty high at 80-percent, but the amount of rain isn’t as most spots will end up around a quarter of an inch with up to a half an inch of rain closer to the coast.

As for tonight, there’s still a 50-percent shot for showers before 1am. It will be mostly cloudy, with temperatures dropping to around 58. The northeast wind will be blowing at 5 to 15 mph, and gusts could reach 20 mph. Rainfall amounts should be relatively light, less than a tenth of an inch.

Moving into Thursday, this little system moves out, but we will be stuck with some lingering clouds. So, we’ll call it “mostly cloudy” with a high near 76. The northeast wind will persist at 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday night will stay mostly cloudy with temperatures around 62. The east wind, initially at around 5 mph, will become calm in the evening.

There’s also a low-pressure system moving east across the Central U.S., which will bring a significant cold front southward as we move toward the weekend. This front will move through our area late Friday into Saturday, bringing drier air and cooler temperatures, up to 10 degrees below the normal values.

So! As we head into Friday, we will start to break out of the clouds a bit even with the next cold front on the horizon. Highs near 83. The wind will be southwesterly at 5 to 10 mph.

Friday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 65. The southeast wind, initially at around 5 mph, will become calm in the evening.

The weekend is looking brighter, with Saturday being sunny and a high near 81. The northwest wind will pick up at 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Saturday night will be clear with a low around 53. The northwest wind remains at 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Sunday continues the sunny trend with a high near 74. The northwest wind persists at 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Sunday night is expected to be mostly clear, with a low around 50.

As we move into the weekend and early next week, the weather pattern will favor low humidity and gusty winds, which might lead to fire weather conditions coming back into the mix.

For the start of the workweek, Monday looks sunny with a high near 70. Monday night will be clear, with a low around 50. Tuesday will also be sunny with a high near 70.

  1. I really like the new way you have the forecast Nick! You are the best and all the folks in Funkville appreciate you very much!

  2. As I said yesterday, I REALLY like the new format. Each day with its own commentary and graphics. VERY nice ‘and’ informative … easy to follow. Stay with it!

  3. Every year I’m reminded that October is our very best month here on the coast. Reading your description of the next few days is a delight.
